ARTIST BIO
Forged in the Michigan factory towns that have served as a melting pot of inspiration for scores of legendary acts and tempered on stages the world over, RWB’s music has been described as “A smart collection of adrenalized modern blues that showcases not only Rusty Wright's considerable guitar chops but an obvious ability to fuse blues and rock in a way that draws from the former's traditions and the latter's high-voltage power.” Blues Impresario Steve Simon called them “One of the most entertaining Blues bands in the country today,” and Rick Raven of Rev. Raven & the Chain Smokin' Altar Boys said "The Rusty Wright Band should headline EVERY show they are on. This band is THAT good. Best I've seen in years."
Make no mistake - this act is much more than a "guitar" band. Soaring Hammond B3 organ, bouncing piano runs and soulful vocal riffs volley to and fro across the stage in answer to Rusty's six-string challenge as he pushes his band to ever greater feats of improvisation as the band swings, rocks and croons its way through sets of music from the band's three CDs and two concert DVDs.
Formed in 2004, the Rusty Wright Band brings to the stage an electrifying, blues-infused tour de force of rollicking musical interplay that is as much fun to watch as it is to listen to. Fronting the band with Wright is his wife, vocalist/guitarist Laurie LaCross-Wright. As they harmonize together and trade vocals on verses, their onstage chemistry is both obvious and engaging, and their good-natured banter between songs brings knowing smiles to the faces of everyone who has ever been in a relationship.
The group's first album "Ain't No Good Life" [Sadson Music 2006] received excellent reviews and more than 5 years later continues to appear occasionally on the iTunes Blues charts across the globe. Their second album, "Playing with Fire" [Sadson Music 2009] enjoyed airplay in more than 100 countries, appeared on the regional Billboard charts, appeared on the iTunes Blues charts more than 135 times globally, and continues to receive airplay on Sirius/XM radio.
Their live performances are where RWB really shines though. Concert and festival tours have taken them through the United States, the US Virgin Islands, Canada, S. Korea & Japan ["Bluzapalooza IV" Department of Defense Armed Forces Entertainment tour], and Italy. They have twice represented the Detroit Blues Society in Memphis at the Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge, [semi-finalists] making them the only act to win the world's largest IBC preliminary competition more than once. This five-piece "energized blues storm" takes audiences on a joyful, rolling tour of souped-up Americana as hints of jazz, southern rock, and even country find their way into a veritable blues stew dished up and served steaming hot with a healthy dose of Motor City flair and attitude. It's a vibrant, honest blending of sounds and styles that brings audiences to their feet and leaves them feeling good!
