Monte Montgomery
Artist Bio
Monte Montgomery is a triple threat, not merely a soulful singer and
accomplished songwriter, but a true virtuoso on his beat-up electrified
acoustic guitar. Winner of the Best Acoustic Guitarist award in the Austin
Music Awards seven years straight (1998-2004), Monte was voted as one of
the 50 Greatest Guitarists of all time by Guitar Player
Magazine in 2004. His unique brand of aggressive pop-rock takes listeners
by surprise, and people watching his energetic live performances for the
first time have been known to say, "Who is this guy, and why haven't I
heard of him before."
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Monte learned to play guitar in the Hill
Country of central Texas after following his mother, Maggie, when she
moved there while he was in his teens. After years fronting various rock
bands in the San Antonio area, he moved to Austin in 1990 to concentrate
on his own original music. Monte's first big break big break came in 1999
with his electrifying appearance on Austin City Limits. Musical influences range from
Mark Knopfler and Lindsey Buckingham to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Lee, Steve
Vai, Steve Morse and Larry Carlton. - via Reverbnation - Bluesdaddy
